STRATEGY FOR DEVELOPMENT OF AQUACULTURE IN SRI LANKA.
- Report of a planning mission,
September – October 1980
Table of contents

ABSTRACT

This report presents the result of an appraisal of the possibilities to culture fish, molluscs, and aquatic plants in fresh and/or brackish water in Sri Lanka. The appraisal was carried out by a multidisciplinary mission, which focussed its investigations on the economic viability and social relevance of potential culture systems. The appraisal included species and culture systems already practised, or considered, in Sri Lanka, as well as those judged to be of potential interest. A strategy for aquaculture development is recommended. It is based on a quantitative evaluation of qualitative data. The strategy consists of a short-term action plan and a long-term development policy.
