ABSTRACT

This document contains background papers presented at two technical working groups on the Marine Environment and Fisheries Resources, held at the Diplomatic Conference on Fisheries Management in the Mediterranean, Heraklion, Crete, 12-14 December 1994. These include reviews of fisheries and environmental issues, assessment and management of demersal, shellfish and small pelagic fish. They also include notes on the status and functions of the General Fisheries Council for the Mediterranean (GFCM) and a summary of recent GFCM fisheries statistics. The document concludes with annexes containing the reports of the two working parties of the Conference, and the final Conference Declaration.
