Under its programme of Technical Assistance (formerly EPTA and now UNDP/TA) and in cooperation with the Government of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has organized three group fellowship study tours on inland fisheries in the U.S.S.R. The first (1965) and second (1966) of these study tours were general in nature, covering the fields of inland fishery research, management and fish culture.1
In 1968, a third such study tour in inland fisheries was held in the U.S.S.R. from 19 April – 29 May, viz, a “Seminar/Study Tour on Genetic Selection and Hybridization of Cultivated Fishes in the U.S.S.R.”, which was, however, of a very specialized nature. Participation was limited to scientific workers from English-and French-speaking developing countries that had a programme of work or the institutional facilities and personnel qualified to undertake such work in the near future.
