This is one of a series of reports prepared during the course of the UNDP project identified on the title page. The conclusions and recommendations given in the report are those considered appropriate at the time of its preparation. They may be modified in the light of further knowledge gained at subsequent stages of the project.

SUMMARY

To assist in management of the fisheries and help increase the fish production from the Pokhara Valley in Nepal, data were collected on limnology, fish biology and present fish catches. A field laboratory was established. Counterpart staff and assistants were trained. Recommendations include continuing monitoring of water quality and fish catches, improvement of the fishing gear licence system, limitation of fish stocking and some regulation of fishing gear.
