KIMS/KIDS KIMS Version 1.0 will be released in the first quarter of 2001. It will be distributed in three forms: 1) KIMS Internet version; 2) KIMS downloadable version, accessible via the FIVIMS web page; and 3) KIMS CD-ROM version, which can be requested from [email protected]. Some major functionalities have been added since the release of the beta-version, in particular the raster images layer support which allows one to combine vector maps with, for example, satellite images. The KIMS software will be placed in an environment of Open Source Development. KIDS is an interactive internet-based database that provides: 1) easy access to reliable food insecurity and vulnerability indicators, and 2) functionalities that allow better understanding of the causes and dimensions of food insecurity and vulnerability. Development of an initial beta release for feedback is currently in progress and scheduled for the first quarter of 2001. Subsequent versions will allow for remote maintenance and collaborative updating of the data. FIVIMS LIST-SERVE The Newsletter is distributed via the list serve - [email protected].
