As highlighted in this paper, the shortfalls are outweighing the achievements and as such it is right and proper that Malawi and other countries that are facing similar problems should redirect their efforts on finding suitable ways of conserving forest genetic resources. It is believed that with the current population growth and rate of deforestation in many countries, many species will become extinct. Countries should embark on ex situ conservation to act as live gene-banks for future generations. Propagation methods of some difficult species must be developed either through tissue culture or other vegetative means and the information documented and shared. Countries having the same species must share knowledge and experience on their findings so that research efforts are not duplicated.
