El presente documento ha sido preparado por el Servicio de información, datos y estadísticas de pesca del Departamento de Pesca de la FAO. Se basa en la “Lista preliminar de las aguas continentales de América Latina” de R. Ziesler y G.D. Ardizzone, Roma 1977, documento que fue enviado a todas las instituciones conocidas de la región pidiéndoles que actualizaran los datos en él contenidos. La actualización de los datos ha sido efectuada por R. Ziesler. Se tiene intención de facilitar a la Comisión de Pesca Continental para América Latina (COPESCAL), a instituciones y a científicos un documento informativo que se espera les resulte útil para el desempeño de sus tareas.

PREPARATION OF THIS DOCUMENT

This document has been prepared by the Fishery Information, Data and Statistics Service, FAO Fisheries Department. It is based on the “Preliminary list of the inland waters of Latin America” by R. Ziesler and G.D. Ardizzone, Rome 1977, a paper which was sent to all known institutions in the region requesting to update the information contained therein. The updating was done by R. Ziesler. It is intended to provide the Commission for Inland Fisheries of Latin America (COPESCAL), scientific institutions and workers with a background document which is hoped to prove useful in the implementation of their tasks.
