BOTSWANA

Will only be able to provide information on four to five tables. However, this information is outdated. Information on other tables can be obtained from other sources. Information on NWFP and disturbances will be supplied. There was no other information on Table 6 to Table 10 because this kind of information has not yet been generated. Report not yet drafted.

ETHIOPIA

Draft report submitted.

GAMBIA

Will be able to provide information on six out of 15 tables. Problems exist with respect to tables 5, 6, 7 and 10. For table 10, they can only provide a list of common species. The intention to hold a stakeholder workshop failed due to lack of funds. There is no information on NWFP and wood removal. Gambia is a low cover forest country with no plantations. Available information dates from 1987, 1998 and 1999.

    GHANA

Had information from high forests zones only. Information in some tables should come from other sources. Whether these institutions will release information is unknown. It will be difficult to get information on savannah woodlands.

KENYA

Limited progress due to internal problems in the Ministries. Sufficient information available to fill FRA tables.

    LIBERIA

No records available due to civil strife. Possible to submit information on 5 tables. Information for Table 5 is five years old. A new inventory has started.

MALAWI

Partial information to fill up to six tables only. The last inventory was done in 1990. This information was with respect to plantations. No data is available for tables 5, 6, 7 and 10. For Table 8 (forest fires), information is only available for plantations.

MAURITIUS

Work to draft the country report started in March 2004 and so far 6 tables have been successfully completed. Two types of ownership of forest exist-public and private.

MOZAMBIQUE

Limited progress due to other country commitments. Have the update of forestry information in 1994. Currently preparing for the next NFI. Will try to complete the tables.

NAMIBIA

Submitted T1. The latest inventory, started in 1996, is only partial. Land ownership information only available for the reference year 2001. Forest fire statistics only available for two regions. NWFP and wood removal information is outdated and difficult to access.

NIGERIA

Started the work and has successfully covered most aspects of the tables. Tables 3, 4, 8 and 9 are still outstanding. No assessment has been done for Table 8.

 

SIERRA LEONE

Not yet started. Problems due to recent war.

Limited progress. Some tables were compiled using expert opinion as there were no records. Employment figures were available. First draft submitted.

Limited progress since the nomination of the NC was fairly recent. Could provide information on Tables 1, 6 and 8.
