The SARD Project Toolkit: A Resource Guide for Promoting SARD in Projects and Programmes (the SARD Project Toolkit) was prepared by Karen Powell, under the supervision of Eve Crowley and in close consultation with Paola Termine and Elisa di Stefano. It is the product of a collaborative effort between FAO, major groups from civil society and partner organisations.
The SARD Project Toolkit was prepared and finalised with support from the Government of Norway under the Programme Cooperation Agreement 2003–2004 (FNOP/INT/005/NOR).It is based upon a Dossier of Methodological Tools for Planning, Implementing and Evaluating SARD Activities, that was compiled by Gianfrancesco Constantini and Gabriele Quinti of the Rome-based NGO, CERFE. This Dossier was prepared in the context of the Italy/FAO Facility for Sustainable Development and Policy Implementation Assistance (GCP/INT/938/ITA), which is a Government of Italy contribution to the SARD Initiative.
The SARD Initiative is a multi-stakeholder umbrella framework that supports the transition to people-centred development and works to strengthen participation in project and policy development to achieve Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development (SARD). The SARD Initiative links resources, expertise, knowledge and technologies with the demands of rural communities and disadvantaged stakeholders and communicates lessons relating to SARD to promote wider use of existing resources and the distribution of benefits.
The author is grateful to Eve Crowley (SDAR), Loretta Sonn (AGD), Dominique Le Gros (SDAR), Takashi Takahatake (SDAR), David Colberts (TCIE), Kevin Gallagher (TCOS), Anne Sophie Poisot (AGD), Kirsten Sukalac (MG co-focal point for Business and Industry), Barbara Huddleston (TCOS), Paola Termine (SDAR), Constance Neely (SDAR), Elisa di Stefano (SDAR) and Jennifer Whelan (SDAR - volunteer), who provided comments on earlier drafts of the SARD Project Toolkit.
