BOTANICAL REVISIONS OF CEDRELA AND SWIETENIA

The New York Botanical Garden has recently published Flora Neotropica Monograph No. 28, Meliaceae, by T.D. Pennington and B.T. Styles (1981, p. 470). This includes botanical revisions of the important timber genera Cedrela and Swietenia, besides several lesser known ones such as Trichilia and Guarea. All species have full botanical descriptions with nomenclatural synonymy and line drawings illustrating habit, leaves, flowers and fruits. Distribution maps with ecological information and details on uses, floral biology, local and vernacular names etc., are also included for all the taxa in Latin America.

The nomenclature of the provenanes of the Cedrela seed collected by the Commonwealth Forestry Institute in cooperation with local forest services, follows that proposed in the above Monograph (see Forest Genetic Resources Information no. 10, p.38).

(Price of the Monograph: $US 50/-).
