CAPE VERDE:

Reflecting irregular rains, crop conditions vary in the islands. Following an erratic beginning of the rainy season, substantial replantings have been necessary on Santiago island. Maize crops are generally in the elongation/heading stage. The pest situation remains mostly calm.

A joint FAO/CILSS Crop Assessment Mission is scheduled in Cape Verde from 28 October to 1 November. Composed of experts or consultants from FAO/GIEWS, the DIAPER Programme and the Agrhymet Centre of CILSS, this Mission will work closely with the national services involved in the monitoring of rainy season (meteorology, hydrology, plant protection, agricultural statistics).
