International Poplar Convention
329. The Conference was informed that the International Poplar Commission, at its Third Special Session (15 November 1977), adopted amendments to the Convention placing the Commission within the framework of FAO.
330. The purpose of two of these amendments was to change the interval of the regular sessions of the Commission established under the Convention from two to four years, and to reduce the term of office of the members of its Executive Committee from six to four years. The remaining two amendments were necessary to implement Conference Resolutions 10/73 and 26/75 by which: (a) the eligibility for participation of non-member States in FAO bodies and meetings was extended to States that were members of the United Nations Specialized Agencies or the International Atomic Energy Agency, and (b) the requirement that the Conference or Council confirm the Rules of Procedure (and amendments thereto) of FAO statutory bodies was eliminated.
331. The Conference, having reviewed the amendments adopted by the Commission, concurred with the amendments in conformity with Article XII, paragraph 3 of the Convention, and accordingly adopted the following resolution:
Amendments to the "Convention placing the international poplar commission within the framework of FAO".
The Conference,
Noting that the International Poplar Commission, at its Third Special Session (15 November 1977), adopted amendments to the Convention placing the Commission within the framework of FAO,
Considering that, in accordance with Article XII, paragraph 3 of the Convention, amendments to the Convention shall become effective only with the concurrence of the Conference of the Organization, and as from the date of such concurrence,
Having reviewed the amendments adopted by the Commission at the aforementioned session,
Concurs with the amendments to the "Convention placing the International Poplar Commission within the framework of FAO" as set forth in Appendix F to this Report.
Adopted 30 November 1977
