2. NARRATIVE

The second survey started from Luanda on 23 April. Figure 1-2 show the cruise track with the hydrographical sections and the fishing stations. The survey net was laid out mainly in correspondence with the previous survey.

The vessel steamed first south to Baia dos Tigres where one day was spent for calibration of the acoustic equipment. Three days were spent for surveying the Baia dos Tigres area. The weather was bad in the area and at times it was not possible to trawl. Due to the weather it was also difficult to detect fish close to the bottom. The shelf from Porto Alexandre to Benguela was covered in about 1 1/2 day. The vessel called on Luanda 13-18 May, and the remaining shelf northwards was covered in the period 18-28 May. The Angolan scientists disembarked in Cabinda on 28 May.

Fishing stations included 62 bottom trawl stations and 69 pelagic trawl stations. The total distance surveyed in Angolan waters was 4850 nm.
