3. Hydrography.

Figure 2 shows the surface temperature over the shelf, while Figure 3 a,b, shows the two sections worked off Nicaragua. The local upwelling observed off San Juan del Sur in the previous surveys prevails also in November, but the general shoreward increase in the temperature outside this area, which was reported in survey III, was not observed during the last survey. A slight local upwelling is also documented from a pocket of colder water off the entrance of Golfo de Fonseca, Figure 2. This can also be confirmed from the hydrographic section in the area. The oxygen conditions on the shelf varies during a year cycle. The depth of the 1 ml/l oxygen limit was located in the four surveys as follows:

The variation in oxygen is clear off San Juan del Sur and off Acajutla, and will likely induce a variation in the fish communities in the area affected.
