The vessels itinerary was as follows:
Departure Port of Spain 13 November 13 hrs.Two days were spent working off the north coast where 16 trawl stations and one hydrographic section where made. One day was used to fish for deep water shrimps on the slope off the east coast where 6 hauls at depths from 380 m to 800 m were made. One day was used to survey the shallow waters south of Manzanilla Bank. 10 trawl hauls and an east/west hydrographic section toward Mayaro Bay were made over the eastern shelf. Finally the Joint Fishing Zone between Trinidad and Venezuela was covered in three days where 26 prepositioned fishing stations and two hydrographic profiles were worked. Altogether 58 trawl stations were completed and 1 000 nm steamed.
Called at Galeota Point 19 November 09 hrs.
Arrival Port of Spain 20 November 19 hrs.
Figure 1 shows the course tracks and the fishing - and hydrographical stations worked. Suitable conditions for bottom trawling were encountered inshore within a distance of some 15 nm off the north coast. The bottom over the deep slope off the east coast south of 10° 30 is generally even and smooth except some parts between 500 and 600 m. Trawling is generally difficult north of the Manzanilla Bank and south of the Bank the bottom is not suitable for trawling inside the 20 fathoms line in the Mayaro Bay. Soft mud was a serious problem for trawling with the relatively heavy equipment of the vessel in many parts of the Colombus Channel, especially on the Venezuelan side.
