SUMMARY

In Botswana the Forestry Sector is not a major component of the national economy because the country’s timber resources are insufficient and do not meet standards to sustainably support a vibrant timber industry. In consequence, the country imports most of the raw materials from Zimbabwe and South Africa. The local timber industry also lacks the capacity and technical expertise to meet local demand. In terms of development, the Forestry Sector is still at an infant stage. Very little studies have been done on wood products. Therefore the information on wood products is very scanty and characterised by unreliability of quantity data. This calls for concerted efforts and co-operation between stakeholders in the data collection and compilation process.
