Programme prospectus
Faced with a clear need for training related to PIM, particularly in the Mediterranean region, CIHEAM/IAMB has worked together with the World Bank and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) to develop a capacity-building programme aimed at training in key countries embarking on PIM.

Since 1997, CIHEAM/IAMB has been successfully running its course on PIM at Bari, Italy. Experts from several countries in the region attend the course, which is a sign that both donors and government authorities recognize the importance of the PIM approach in the development of water resources.

A workshop on public-private partnerships in water resources management is held in cooperation with the World Bank, IFAD and other private sector agencies.

Brief description of institution/organization
The Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Bari (IAMB) is one of the four Institutes that make up the Centre International de Hautes Etudes Agronomiques Méditerranéennes (CIHEAM), founded in 1962 as an inter-governmental organization under the auspices of the OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development).

The CIHEAM mandate is to be an instrument of cooperation between the countries of the Mediterranean in the areas of postgraduate agricultural education and the promotion of agricultural research through cooperative networks.

Currently, CIHEAM comprises 13 member countries: Albania, Algeria, Egypt, France, Greece, Italy, Lebanon, Malta, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, Tunisia and Turkey.

Over four decades of activity, CIHEAM has become recognized for excellence in the field of education and research in agriculture, water-resource management, agri-food industry and the environment, working in partnership with the specialist national institutions as well as in cooperation with the international organizations active in the region (e.g. ICARDA, FAO, OADA, etc.).
