SENEGAL

SENEGAL:

Plantings of coarse grains are suffering water stress due to erratic rains. Following substantial early rains in the south-east in mid-May, precipitation covered the southwest, the centre and the north in June. However, rains were erratic in most regions and cumulative rainfall as of late June was below the same period last year and below average in most meteorological stations. Land preparation and plantings of coarse grains are underway. Recently planted coarse grains are reportedly suffering water stress in several areas, mainly in the east and the south.

Pastures have started to regenerate in the centre. Army worms infestations are reported in the Kolda region.
