CECAF at its fifth session in Lome (March 1977) recommended that a number of management meetings be held including one for hakes and seabreams in the northern zone of the CECAF area (Fig. 1). This resolution (Res. CECAF/V/2) requested the CECAF Project to prepare background documentation for this meeting. The project reviewed all existing data on hakes and convened this meeting to evaluate the state of exploitation of hake stocks in this zone (Divisions 34.1.1, 34.1.2, 34.1.3, 34.3.1) and to suggest management advice. The group met in Tenerife from June 5-9 at the Laboratory of the Spanish Institute of Oceanography.
