CFS:2002/4

COMMITTEE ON WORLD FOOD SECURITY

Twenty-eighth Session

Rome, 6-8 June 2002

EXTRACTS RELATED TO THE FOLLOW-UP TO THE WORLD FOOD SUMMIT FROM THE REPORTS OF THE FAO REGIONAL CONFERENCES

At its 24th session 2-5 June 1998, the Committee considering its agenda item "Future Reporting Format and Arrangements" on the basis of the report of the Open Ended Working Group (OEWG) which met immediately before the session to consider this subject, reviewed and endorsed the report of the OEWG (Appendix G to document CL 115/11).

The OEWG in particular considered the following Question to which it proposed the answer underneath:

"Question 6. What method, if any, should be used to incorporate contributions from regional debates in the CFS monitoring process?

Regional Conferences would contribute regional inputs to the CFS monitoring process. In this connection the CFS meetings in even years should be rescheduled to be held after all Regional Conference sessions had finished their work."

1. In application of this proposal endorsed by the CFS, the Committee is invited to take into consideration the contribution of the FAO Regional Conferences held in 2002. The extracts from Regional Conference Reports referring to the follow-up to the World Food Summit, are contained in the Supplementary documents CFS:2002/4 sup 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.
