The voice of fishers and fish workers needs to be heard. All over the world, human and labour rights violations and abuses have been documented, and despite commendable efforts by many governments as well as by the industry, there are still too many cases of unacceptable practices taking place. These occur not only in developing countries but can be found also in the developed world, and at all stages of the value chain.

This year, FAO, the Holy See, ILO, and partners celebrate our third World Fisheries Day together, with a focus on ensuring social sustainability throughout the long and complex value chains of the fisheries and aquaculture sector.
