Sub-Regional Coordinator for West Africa
Ms. Stephen-Tchicaya was appointed Acting FAO Subregional Coordinator for West Africa in March 2025. She also serves as FAO Representative in Senegal. In addition to these responsibilities, she holds the position of Regional Programme Leader for Social Protection at the FAO Regional Office for Africa in Accra.
Sub-Regional Coordinator for West Africa: Ms. Bintia Stephen-Tchicaya
Ms. Bintia Stephen-Tchicaya Ms. Stephen-Tchicaya was appointed Acting FAO Subregional Coordinator for West Africa in March 2025. She also serves as FAO Representative in Senegal. In addition to these responsibilities, she holds the position of Regional Programme Leader for Social Protection at the FAO Regional Office for Africa in Accra.
A seasoned professional with over 35 years of experience, including 25 within the United Nations system, Ms. Stephen-Tchicaya has held various strategic positions within FAO, both at headquarters and in decentralized offices in West and Central Africa. She has recognized expertise in agricultural policy, strategic planning, socioeconomic analysis, and inter-institutional cooperation.
From May 2023 to March 2025, she was appointed FAO Resident Representative ad interim in Liberia, where she helped strengthen strategic dialogue with the government while overseeing field operations.
She previously held several positions within FAO, including as a Strategic Planning Officer at the Regional Office for Africa in Ghana and Program Officer at the Subregional Office for Central Africa in Gabon. She also served as a Program Officer in the Office of Support to Decentralized Offices at FAO Headquarters in Rome, where she led the UN System Reform for the decentralized office network.
Before joining FAO, she worked as an Advisor and Grants Officer at USAID, as well as a Program Officer for the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Haiti. She holds a master’s degree in economics and international finance from the American University of Paris, France, and a master’s in human development, Food security and sustainability from the Roma Tre University, Italy.
