BACKGROUND

Schools present several possibilities for students to access foods and drinks, and therefore constitute a key setting for the development of adequate food practices. Ensuring a healthy school environment by providing school meals that meet established nutrition guidelines and standards, and by making available nutritious competitive food choices, should be a priority of national and local governments. This would contribute to improving diet quality and to supporting the right to adequate food of children and adolescents.

The webinar will address the following aspects:

• The influence of the school food environment on students’ food practices.
• Targeted assessments, implementation and evaluation of key interventions to improve school food environments.
• The need for coherence between interventions to improve the nutrition quality and adequacy of school meals and those of foods sold or marketed in and around schools.
