FAO-IBRAF online capacity development course on sustainable control of fall armyworm

The Fall Armyworm (FAW) Secretariat in collaboration with the South-South and Triangular Cooperation through the Joint FAO-Brazil Africa Institute (IBRAF) is organizing an online professional capacity development course on sustainable control of FAW. The training aims to strengthen expertise and skills needed for the sustainable control of FAW under the umbrella of the Global Action for Fall Armyworm Control. The training course agenda include six modules on hands-on practices for the biological control of FAW, with one module dedicated to biological control and biopesticides as business opportunities.

What: Online professional capacity development course on sustainable control of Fall Armyworm (FAW). FAO will recruit 100 participants per session for one month training.

When: November and December 2021 training – Anglophones countries from Africa. January and February 2022 – Francophones countries from Africa.

Who: Participants will include agri-preneurs, rural producers, rural extension professionals, technical and vocational schools’ teachers.

Why: In Africa, the Fall Armyworm causes the highest annual yield losses worth USD9.4 billion, and often skills and knowledge by the communities and extensionists to control and manage this invasive pest is limited.

The training will be conducted in English and French.
