Consultations between Côte-d’Ivoire and Tunisia strengthen cooperation
Preparatory process of 29th FAO Regional Conference for Africa
15-16 February 2016, Abidjan –The Tunisian Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries and President of the 28th Session of the FAO Regional Conference for Africa, Mr. Saad Seddik, met with the Ivorian Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Mamadou Coulibaly Sangafowa, in the presence of a delegation from the FAO Office in Côte-d’Ivoire. The Tunisian delegation also met Mr. Kobenan Kouassi Adjoumani, the Ivoirian Minister for Animal and Fishery Resources.
This meeting was an occasion to discuss the progress made in the preparations for the 29th FAO Regional Conference for Africa, to be held from 4 to 8 April 2016 in Abidjan.
In addition to the finalization of the agenda for the 29th Session of the FAO Regional Conference for Africa, the working visit was also an opportunity to evaluate the progress made in the implementation of the recommendations of the 28th Conference held in Tunis in 2014 which endorsed the candidature of Côte d’Ivoire to host the 29th Session.
Strengthening cooperation between the two countries
Areas for bilateral cooperation were discussed at the meeting and these will be made formal in April 2016, at the next session of the Ivorian-Tunisian Joint Commission. They include production, marketing, processing and enhancing the value of agricultural products. Increased expertise and experience sharing is also planned in the areas of hydraulics, agriculture, rural development, production, processing and training as well as livestock, animal health and fisheries production. These exchanges could be considered in the context of South-South Cooperation with FAO’s facilitation.
The Tunisian delegation also visited the FAO Representation in Côte d’Ivoire on 16 February 2016, and the Representative, Mr. Germain Da sylva, and his colleagues brief them on the ongoing work of FAO in Côte d’Ivoire.
Mr. Saad Seddik was accompanied for the occasion by a delegation made of the Ambassador of Tunisia to Côte d’Ivoire, Mr. Yassine Eloued, Mr. Hafedh Khlif, Director of International Cooperation at the Tunisian Ministry of Agriculture, and Mr. Mohamed Hedi Hammadi, First Secretary for Foreign Affairs at the Tunisian Embassy in Côte d’Ivoire.
