FAO Subregional Office for West Africa

The West Africa Team is primarily responsible for the overall identification, planning and implementation of FAO's priority activities in West Africa. It serves as the focal point for addressing sub region-wide food, nutrition and agricultural issues. The RAF West Africa Team plays a critical role in maintaining and strengthening collaborative relations with Country Representations and constructive partnership with sub region-wide development organizations. The Team facilitates the provision of coordinated FAO technical support/advice as appropriate, based on the decentralized approach and the principle of subsidiarity, i.e. serving as the entry point in West Africa and calling upon additional expertise regardless of their locations.

The strategic orientations and broad vision of the RAF West Africa Team is to help ECOWAS member countries to reduce poverty, promote food security and curb marginalization by providing assistance to and addressing the needs of all the 15 member countries. They are also meant to accelerate, on a sustainable basis, the rate of growth of agricultural productivity and improve the competitiveness of their agricultural sector in a broad-based and gender-sensitive enhancement of food and nutrition security and poverty reduction, while preserving the natural resource base.
