The FAO Commission for Controlling the Desert Locust in South-West Asia (SWAC) is the oldest of the three regional commissions within the global locust early warning and prevention system. It was established in 1964 and consists of four member countries: Afghanistan, India, Iran and Pakistan. The Senior Locust Forecasting Officer at FAO HQ is the Secretariat of the Commission. The Commission funds from its own sources several activities to strengthen national capacities as well as field activities such as the annual Iran/Pakistan Joint Survey.
