Special Session of the International Rice Commission 13-14 June 2013
The 22nd Session of the IRC was convened 29-30 November 2012 but was unable to reach a decision on its future. Background information to the 22nd Session of the IRC may be found here.
The 22nd Session did decide to establish a Working Group to develop a proposal on the future of the Commission and that the proposal would be considered by a Special Session of the Commission 13 -14 June 2013.
The Special Session is scheduled immediately prior to the 38th FAO Conference to ensure a quorum for decision making. Invitations and a provisional agenda for the Special Session were sent to Member countries on 8 March 2013 with a request for response by 2 May 2013. Copies of the invitation and provisional agenda were also posted on the Permanent Representatives website.
The main item on the agenda of the Special Session will be a decision on the future of the Commission. In the invitation Member countries were asked to consider the inclusion of senior policy- makers in their delegations and reminded of the need to submit the credentials of delegates to the Secretariat not later than the opening day of the meeting.
