Strengthening resilience capacity in Latin America: FAO kicks off joint training

16.07.2025

The RIMA training for FAO Colombia and FAO Venezuela officially launched in July, marking an important step toward strengthening regional capacities in resilience to food insecurity measurement. Jointly organized by FAO's Agrifood Economics and Policy (ESA) Division and the Office of Emergencies and Resilience (OER), the training brings together more than 30 participants from both offices for a comprehensive learning journey on the Resilience Index Measurement and Analysis (RIMA) framework and its relevance for FAO programming, monitoring and evaluation.

Across a series of sessions, participants are exploring core RIMA concepts, gaining hands-on experience with the E-RIMA toolkit, and learning how to adapt resilience indicators to national contexts and project specific requirements. This holistic training approach aims to equip teams in the Latin America region with the skills and tools needed to apply resilience evidence more effectively in their programming and analysis.

As Juan Tribin Rivera, Food Security and Agricultural Livelihoods Assessment Specialist at FAO Colombia, noted, “The RIMA training was highly relevant and timely, as it enabled participants to gain a better understanding of new concepts and key methodological approaches for resilience analysis.”

He added, “It also supported methodological alignment across teams and significantly contributed to progress toward the global harmonization of baseline and endline instruments through the use of the new technological tool, representing an important step forward in improving data quality, consistency, and comparability.”

The initiative forms part of FAO’s broader effort to expand RIMA expertise in the region and foster a stronger, evidence-based approach to resilience programming across country teams.
