FAO AGRIS Unveils New Design and Thematic Search Cards

FAO

The FAO AGRIS search platform has introduced a significant design update alongside a new interactive feature aimed at streamlining access to global agricultural research.

The updated  agris.fao.org portal now includes specialized thematic search cards that provide curated entry points to bibliographic records on priority topics. These cards align with FAO thematic areas, strategic priorities, commemorative years, and international initiatives, enabling users to access high-quality research results with a single click.

This enhancement reflects FAO AGRIS’s continued commitment to making scientific knowledge more accessible to policymakers, researchers, students and practitioners worldwide. By simplifying the interface between a database of over 16 million records and its users, the platform ensures that critical knowledge on topics such as food security, climate action, and sustainable production is immediately discoverable.

Optimizing Knowledge Discovery and Research Integration

The new functionality supports a sophisticated yet intuitive user journey. Once a thematic area is selected, users can refine their search within that specific context using advanced filters or seamlessly return to the broader global database. This layered approach supports three key objectives:

  • Accelerating Knowledge Discovery: By removing the technical complexity of constructing detailed search queries, the platform reduces the time required to find high-value research outputs.
  • Aligning Research with Global Mandates: The thematic cards connect specialized agricultural literature with international agendas such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals and FAO’s Strategic Framework, ensuring that research is viewed through the lens of current global challenges.
  • Enhancing Interdisciplinary Collaboration: The intuitive design encourages users to explore intersecting fields, fostering a multidisciplinary perspective on agrifood challenges and facilitating navigation across regions and data providers.

By integrating these new features, FAO AGRIS reinforces its position as a leading global agricultural platform and a vital bridge between local innovations and global research visibility.

With millions of records from over 160 countries, FAO AGRIS continues to deliver on FAO’s mandate to provide a multilingual, multidisciplinary space for international collaboration, while remaining at the forefront of the digital transformation in agriculture.

By offering clearer and more intuitive pathways to research, the thematic cards empower the global research community with the essential tools needed to translate specialized scientific knowledge into measurable, sustainable actions.
