FAO
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) announces the recent inclusion of five esteemed institutions from Uruguay into the International System for Agricultural Science and Technology (AGRIS). Through this collaboration, these institutions will share crucial research to address agricultural and environmental challenges within Uruguay and internationally.
The newly joined Uruguayan institutions are:
Sociedad de Medicina Veterinaria del Uruguay: Focuses on advancing veterinary science, particularly for livestock health and disease management, to support Uruguay’s agricultural industry.
Scientific Electronic Library Online Uruguay (SciELO Uruguay): Provides open access to scientific research, enhancing the visibility of Uruguayan studies in agriculture and environmental science.
Universidad de la República: Prominent in agricultural research, it contributes extensive knowledge on crop productivity, animal science, and environmental conservation.
Universidad Católica del Uruguay: Known for interdisciplinary studies, it addresses sustainable agriculture, food security, and rural development.
Laboratorio Tecnológico del Uruguay (LATU): Conducts applied research on agricultural technology, quality control, and environmental management to boost productivity and sustainability.
Together, these institutions bring a wealth of research—7,464 records—into AGRIS on topics such as crop yield, sheep and cattle farming, pest control, plant breeding, and soil management, enriching the AGRIS network and offering valuable insights into sustainable agriculture.
At the AGRIS Webinar opening, Mr. Gonzalo Kmaid, the FAO representative for Uruguay, highlighted the importance of expanding knowledge access and raising the visibility of local research. “Strategic collaboration between AGRIS and FAO country offices is essential to ensure this initiative’s success,” he noted, emphasizing that joint efforts like these create broader opportunities for Uruguayan research to impact global agricultural progress.
This achievement reflects the productive collaboration between the FAO Office in Uruguay and AGRIS, forming a bridge that connects Uruguayan research with global agricultural knowledge. By sharing these records, Uruguayan research gains international visibility, empowering researchers, policymakers, and farmers worldwide to tackle agricultural challenges and promote sustainable innovation.
