The Latin American Association of Animal Production Joins AGRIS

The International System for Agricultural Science and Technology (AGRIS), managed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), welcomes the Asociación Latinoamericana de Producción Animal (ALPA) as a new data provider. Founded in 1966, ALPA aims to foster scientific collaboration across Latin America and the Caribbean to promote sustainable, equitable, and environmentally sound livestock production.

Originally founded in Venezuela through the collaboration between the Venezuelan Society of Animal Production and the Mexican Association of Animal Production, the association later expanded its reach and administrative base to Canada to better unify Latin American animal production efforts and enhance international presence.

ALPA contributes key research records focusing on animal nutrition, forage supplementation, DNA extraction techniques in avian species, climate impacts on tropical cattle reproduction, and conservation of indigenous livestock breeds. Their recent studies include evaluations of in vitro digestibility of Amazonian forage species for cattle supplementation, protocols for DNA isolation from bird blood, and investigations into climate stress effects on cattle embryo development.

By joining AGRIS, ALPA enhances access to critical livestock science and technology knowledge, supporting innovation and sustainable animal production in Latin America and beyond.
