Scaling Out Agroecology Practices in China

Nanjing University shows its support for Agroecology by hosting this Conference that gathers civil society, academia, government officials, farmers and consumers to discuss their concerns about Agroecology to be able to address them through a holistic approach.

The Conference will address agroecological themes such as sustainable transition towards ecological agriculture where case studies from Nanjing will be discussed. Alternative food networks and urban-rural connections within China’s food system reality will also be presented, taking into account gender, justice and food sovereignty issues.

The development of the ecological food sector in China is one of the topics that will be discussed with specific focus on innovative organic rice production technologies and on enhancing networking and partnerships to achieve change.

Since high food prices are a major barrier for scaling up ecological production, the panelists will discuss if the current price of ecologically produced food is reasonable and the kind of infrastructure improvements needed to facilitate short value chain agriculture.

Is Agroecology a viable solution to the crisis facing smallholders in the modernized food system? How can we engage smallholders more in Agroecology? What can each of us do to foster that? These are some of the questions the Conference will seek to answer.
