International Webinar Series: Agroecology and Community on 19, 21 and 23 April

The Malaysian Agroecology Society for Sustainable Resource Intensification (SRI-Mas), the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and the Malaysian Food Security and Sovereignty Forum (FKMM) are jointly organizing the International Webinar Series on Agroecology & Community in conjunction with the International Seed Day.

The Webinar Series aims to promote agroecological approaches for sustainable agriculture, with related topics presented by local and international speakers. The series will raise awareness of agroecology and will explore community practices globally.

The first event ‘’The Incompatibility of GMOs with Agroecology’’ will be held on 19 April 2021 at 9:00 PM (Malaysia time – UNC+8). The conversation moderated by Dr. Anni Mitin (SRI-Mas Advisor) will include a discussion between Ms. Lim Li Ching and Dr. Eva Sirinathsinghji (Senior Researcher at Third World Network, based in Malaysia).

The second event ‘’Food Sovereignty, Agroecology, Seeds, and United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Peasants (UNDROP)’’ will be held on 21 April 2021 at 9:00 PM (Malaysia time – UNC+8). The main speaker will be Mr. Zainal Arifin Fuad (Indonesian Peasant Union). The conversation will be moderated by Mr. Nur Fitri Amir Muhammad (FKMM).

The last event in the series ‘’Community Seed Saving Practices’’ will be held on 23 April 2021 at 9:00 PM (Malaysia time – UNC+8) and will feature Dr. Carmelita Cervantes (Farm Owner & Trainer at Carmel Agri-Learning Farm, Inc., Philippines). The conversation will be moderated by Ms. Shangeetha (FKMM).
