The FAO Technical Network on Sustainable Crop Production and Agroecology

is pleased to invite you to
the webinar

SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE PRODUCTION
AND AGROECOLOGY

online at: https://fao.adobeconnect.com/_a1026619000/r99znxs4li9/
7 December 2016, from 12:00h - 13:00h (GMT +1)

Pablo Tittonell, national coordinator of the Natural Resources and Environment Program of Instituto Nacional de Tecnología Agropecuaria (INTA), Argentina’s agricultural research organization, will present technical content and practical examples on agroecology followed by a discussion among the participants.

His presentation, will address the following topics:

  • Agroecological principles in the framework of the five Principles of FAO’s Common Vision for Sustainable Food and Agriculture and potential indicators to assess sustainability;
  • Agroecology’s role in sustaining agricultural production;
  • Integrated Pest Management practices and Agroecology;
  • Agroecology and climate change adaptation and mitigation;
  • Agroecology and soil health;
  • Relevant examples at policy and field levels (both large and small scale farms from developed as well as developing countries, different landscapes and climates).

The Webinar will be opened by Hans Dreyer, Director of the Plant Production and Protection Division.

Pablo Tittonell, currently working at INTA, is former chair Professor of Wageningen University in The Netherlands. He is an agronomist by training and worked both in the private sector and in academic/research organizations. He holds a PhD in Production Ecology and Resource Conservation. His areas of expertise include soil fertility, agroecology, biodiversity and farming systems analysis.

Since 2014, FAO has been organizing a series of technical seminars and knowledge building activities on Agroecology and topics relevant to sustainable production systems, in the framework of AGP’s principle mandate and related Strategic Programmes, with the scope of building institutional capacities and synergies to make agriculture, forestry, fisheries and livestock more productive, sustainable and resilient.

This is an excellent opportunity to provide technical information to FAO staff on the science and practices of agroecological approaches, specifically related to production, ecosystem services and biodiversity, in the framework of sustainable agricultural and food production. This is particularly important as more and more countries are supporting the expansion of agroecological principles, strategies and practices to better integrate the different components of sustainability as required by the new UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Please confirm your participation by return to [email protected] as the number of places is limited.
