Launch webinar of the course ''Agroecology: transition towards sustainable food systems'' on 24 September 2021

The course ''Agroecology: transition towards sustainable food systems'' is a joint effort of FAO and the Latin American Scientific Society of Agroecology (SOCLA). The course stimulates the exchange and promotion of agroecological principles and approaches in the context of territorial development, sustainability and resilience, governance and empowerment of communities and people.

The main objectives of the course are:

  • to disseminate, promote and strengthen knowledge on agroecology;
  • to contribute to informed decision making;
  • to propose actions that consolidate sustainable and resilient food systems and promote rural and rural-urban territorial development in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The course is intended for representatives of the public and private sectors, civil society, academia and international organizations interested in deepening their knowledge on agroecology.

This event will celebrate the regional launch of the course ''Agroecology: transition to sustainable food systems'' by clarifying its objectives, purposes and scope. It will be held at 12 h Chile time (UTC -4, check here the time in your country) in virtual mode in Spanish with simultaneous interpretation in English featuring interventions by:

- Luiz Beduschi, FAO Territorial Development Policy Officer.

- Georgina Catacora-Vargas, President of the Latin American Scientific Society of Agroecology (SOCLA).

- Emma Siliprandi, FAO Agriculture Officer.

- René Montalba, representative of the Latin American Scientific Society for Agroecology (SOCLA).

- María Noel Salgado, Representative of the Latin American and Caribbean Agroecology Movement (MAELA).

- Javiera Gallardo, environmental activist of the Tremendas collective.
