Agroecology Knowledge Hub

Agro-Bio-Culture Festival in Togo from 20 to 30 August 2022

JVE (Jeunes Volontaires pour l’Environnement) Togo is pleased to invite you to the 18h Edition of the Agro-Bio-Culture Festival scheduled in the Grand Kloto Region of Togo from the 20th-30th August 2022.

This year’s Festival is developed around the theme, “Optimising African youth action for sustainable food systems and forest landscape restoration”, with the main objective of bringing attention to the participation of youth and women in the conservation and governance of natural resources.

The AgroBioCulture (ABC) Festival, formerly known as Cultural Biodiversity Week (CBW), is an annual event organised by Young Volunteers for the Environment (YVE) to create a space for dialogue between young people, children, and older people within communities as well as to provide expertise and knowledge from scientific and traditional sources. The event is organised in collaboration with local authorities and other stakeholders to celebrate cultural diversity, heritage, and traditions while promoting practices that conserve nature and enhance sustainable community development, all in an environment of tourism and learning.

The festival is an excellent way to celebrate those cultural and cultivation practices that have been passed down from generation to generation and are essential for the preservation of the environment and Biodiversity; the event is an opportunity to showcase indigenous knowledge (especially women’s knowledge of seed conservation), facilitate knowledge transmission, and promote local consumption and nature-based practices. The week will be filled with training workshops, seed fairs and exchanges on agroecology, practical experiences of seed selection, promotion of local products, cultural shows, songs and dances, and field visits.
