Nutritional differences in eggs, chicken, and plantain from agroecological, conventional, and commercial systems: a case study in Valle del Cauca, Colombia

A recent case study in Valle del Cauca, Colombia, highlights the potential nutritional advantages of agroecological farming compared to conventional and commercial systems. By collaborating with local farmers, researchers analyzed the nutritional profiles of eggs, chicken, and plantain from these three production systems. The results suggest that agroecological products, particularly eggs and chicken, offer higher levels of certain nutrients, such as protein and calcium, alongside lower moisture content, which can enhance nutrient density. While these findings underline the promise of agroecological practices in delivering healthier food options, the study also emphasizes the need for expanded research to validate these trends across diverse contexts and larger samples.
