An organic matter database (OMD): consolidating global residue data from agriculture, fisheries, forestry and related industries

This article introduces the Organic Matter Database (OMD), a comprehensive global repository consolidating residue data from agriculture, fisheries, forestry, and related industries. The OMD aims to provide a standardized and accessible platform for researchers and policymakers to assess the availability and characteristics of organic residues worldwide. By integrating diverse data sources, the database facilitates informed decision-making in areas such as sustainable resource management, bioenergy production, and environmental conservation.

The OMD is the first of its kind to consolidate quantities and nutrient concentrations of residues and by-products globally from agriculture, fisheries, forestry and related industries and will continue to be updated continuously as new production data are available in FAOSTAT  and country-specific conversion coefficients.
