On August 9th, the International Day of the World's Indigenous People is commemorated. This year, the day focuses on the theme "The Role of Indigenous Women in the Preservation and Transmission of Traditional Knowledge. Indigenous Peoples have shown the world that their food and knowledge systems are sustainable, and resilient and can contribute to the global debate on climate action and sustainable agri-food systems. However, Indigenous Peoples are currently facing the major impacts of climate change, although they contribute the least to global warming. FAO has joined forces with Indigenous Peoples around the world to promote the recognition, respect, and strengthening of Indigenous Peoples' food and knowledge systems.
