The International Meeting of Researchers on Agroecology is led by the “Alliance of Women in Agroecology (AMA-AWA)”, which was formed in 2013. The different academic and social sectors that belong to this group bet on: 1) promoting and making visible the participation of women in the science of Agroecology; 2) contribute to the development of future generations of agroecologists, and 3) establish alliances with women linked to agroecological production and their organizations. In relation to the above, in congresses of the Latin American Scientific Society of Agroecology (SOCLA), AMA-AWA has led symposiums on gender and agroecology, promoting the participation of women on empowerment and equity issues in the productive sectors (Zuluaga, Catacora & Siliprandi, 2018).

This meeting seeks to strengthen the international community in the face of the transition from conventional to agroecological production, where women achieve close synergies for the supply of seeds and medicinal plants. Thus, feminist and agroecological perspectives are concerned with restoring and carrying out a comprehensive management of the territories, in addition to transforming the pyramid of power between the genders (Zuluaga, Catacora & Siliprandi, 2018), in the constant search for equity and justice environmental.

Significant ecofeminist and agroecological experiences will be addressed to acquire a more just and equitable society.

The event is organized by the Postgraduate in Ethnobiology and Biocultural Studies of the Faculty of Natural, Exact and Educational Sciences of UniCauca; the Natural History Museum of UniCauca; the Autonomous University Corporation of Cauca; and the Postgraduate in Science-Biology of the Faculty of Natural and Exact Sciences of the Universidad del Valle.
