The FAO Africa Gender Team is pleased to invite you to this year's virtual International Women's Day celebration, which will be taking place on 9 March, from 10:00-11:30 AM GMT. The virtual celebration will highlight how peasant and indigenous women are actively promoting healthy food systems through agroecology, regenerative approaches and indigenous foodways for better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life - leaving no one behind!

Representatives of the African Women’s Collaborative for Healthy Food Systems from Zimbabwe, Uganda, Zambia and Senegal will join an interactive discussion and Questions & Answers session about their work on the field.

Rural and indigenous women and girls in Africa are critical agents of change in climate action and in the fight against rural poverty, hunger, and malnutrition. Women in Africa play key roles in food systems, in agrobiodiversity conservation, natural resource management, food production, preparation, processing and marketing. They are holders of knowledge about traditional seeds and species and they are innovators when it comes to climate-resilient agriculture and adaptation practices.
