The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the CKAN data management system

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is now using the CKAN data management system to share releases of AGROVOC, its multilingual thesaurus, and AGRIS, the platform promoting accessibility of scientific information and digital data in food and agriculture.

CKAN is an open-source software, with an active community of contributors who develop and maintain its core technology, that will make data accessible by providing tools to streamline publishing, sharing, finding, and using data. It supports many APIs to access its content.

The FAO CKAN instance has a broad collection of datasets from various FAO departments.

Sharing the AGROVOC releases on CKAN is expected to support the search of datasets with better metadata. Similarly, sharing the AGRIS open dataset will increase the visibility and uptake.
