Climate change and disaster risk management: a common agenda

Hybrid Event, 12/05/2022

The increase in the intensity and frequency of adverse climatic events due to climate change is one of the main challenges for agriculture and food security in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The panel of this third webinar will present experiences that will make visible why disaster risk management should be understood as an integral aspect of adaptation to climate change and how this relationship has materialized in practice in the LAC region through good practices such as Nature-Based Solutions, policy changes and large-scale transformational initiatives that synergistically address the impact of climate change, climate variability, and extreme events at the territorial level.

Panelists:

  • Paulina Aldunce, academic of the University of Chile, member Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)
  • Jessica Margarita Laguardia, head of the Climate Change Unit of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of El Salvador, RECLIMA expert
  • AL-Mario Casimir, PhD in soil sciences, Agricultural Officer of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries of the Government of Dominica

Moderator:

  • Marion Khamis, Risk Management and Resilience Specialist at FAO Regional Office for LAC
