The World Food Safety Day in Latin America and the Caribbean 2022
Hybrid Event, 01/06/2022

Access to safe food is essential for people's health and life. Over 200 diseases are caused by eating food contaminated with bacteria, viruses, parasites or chemical substances. Every year, one in 10 people in the world suffer from foodborne diseases annually.
Every June 7, World Food Safety Day (WFSD) is celebrated with the aim of raising awareness about the importance of safe food for a full life.
Food safety is everyone's job. There are five calls to action among all the actors:
- Ensure it’s safe - Governments must ensure safe and nutritious food for all
- Grow it safe - Agriculture and food producers need to adopt good practices
- Keep it safe - Business operators must make sure food is safe
- Know what’s safe - Consumers need to learn about safe and healthy food
- Team up for food safety – Let’s work together for safe food and good health!
In view of the continuous challenges for food safety, this 2022, the international and regional organizations of OIRSA, FAO, PAHO/PANAFTOSA, IICA and CCLAC join forces for the second consecutive year to celebrate the WFSD. The objective is to raise awareness about the risks of food safety and emphasize the importance of consuming safe food for better health.
The topics of the webinar are Early warning systems, Updates on MRLs for pesticides and contaminants in fruits and vegetables, Food fraud, and Food safety challenges for the Caribbean
The webinar will be broadcast on June 1, 2022 and is aimed at the participation of all actors in the food chain in the Latin American and Caribbean region.
