Hybrid Event, 03/09/2018 - 07/09/2018

As custodian agency of SDG indicators 2.5.1, 14.4.1, 15.1.1, 15.2.1, 2.5.2, 14.6.1, 14.b.1, 15.4.2, 2.4.1, 2.a.1, 12.3.1, 2.c.1, 2.3.1, 2.3.2, 5.a.2, 6.4.1, 5.a.1, 6.4.2, FAO RLC is organizing a training-of-trainers workshop at the Palladium Business Hotel in Montevideo, Uruguay.

The overall goal of the workshop is to train national experts, who will train others in their countries and regions.

The availability of data is the basis for measuring, monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the 2, 5, 6, 12, 14, 15 y 16 objectives of the 2030 Agenda.

In the region of Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), there are countries with significant weaknesses when calculating the indicators of the SDGs; especially countries report that they do not produce and/or do not have the capacity to produce certain indicators because there has not been a specific demand for them up to that moment. For this reason, there is a need to move forward with the incorporation of new measures and indicators within the official statistical architecture, which could even involve the installation of new statistical operations and collection instruments in the sphere of public and private institutions commissioned of your production. It is necessary to work in coordination with other agencies that have SDG indicators in custody.

The activities of this event are part of Output 3 "Development of technical and methodological capacities in countries for the measurement and monitoring of the SDGs under the custody of FAO, including review mechanisms to provide feedback to the process", corresponding to the "Project Strengthening capacities in the measurement and reporting of the Sustainable Development Goals in the countries of South America - TCP / RLA / 3611 ". Additionally, as a result of product 3, nine national statistics consultancies are in process of execution, which have allowed a final report for each country that allowed adapting the available global definitions and methodologies to the national context, taking into account all the characteristics of the country. In this way, follow up on the 2030 Agenda considering the indicators that the country had the capacity to work in the period of the consultancy (3 months) of SDG in the custody of FAO.
