Regional consultation with the private sector in preparation for the 39th session of the FAO Regional Conference for Latin America and the Caribbean (LARC 39)

21/01/2026

Live Broadcast
Background

The FAO Regional Conference for Latin America and the Caribbean is the forum where leaders from the 33 member countries define guidelines for the work that FAO will carry out during the next two years (2026 – 2027). It will take place from March 2 to 6, 2026, in Brasilia, Brazil. The event will be broadcasted live on FAO Americas' online channels.

Prior to LARC39, there will be a consultation and dialogue session for representatives of the private sector involved in food systems on January 21. The session provides an opportunity for them to engage and discuss with the FAO regional representative and our technical leaders. Additionally, there will be a coordination space among the private sector participants, which will serve to generate inputs for the subsequent drafting of a statement outlining the sector's position, to be presented to member countries during LARC39, and will also serve to select the representatives who will represent the sector at the conference itself in March.

Methodology

The consultation with the private sector represents a forum for dialogue and knowledge exchange aimed at gathering relevant information and understanding the main challenges and recommendations from private sector representatives for the FAO in preparation for the next two years (2026 – 2027).

To achieve the proposed objectives, the following sessions will be held:

  1. Dialogue FAO - Private Sector (January 21, 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, Santiago, Chile time), where FAO officials will share results from the last two years (2024-2025) and present a work proposal for the next ones (2026-2027), which will be discussed with countries during LARC39.

This session will be primarily expositive, open to the public, and will consider a good amount of time for questions to FAO officials.
  2. Private Sector coordination session (January 21, 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM, Santiago, Chile time), where representatives from the sector will define specific contributions, organize themselves to draft the sector's declaration and determine their spokespeople for LARC39.

This session is open, participatory, and coordinated by members of the private sector.

Both sessions are open to the public (with prior registration) and are virtual, so we invite all people who are directly or indirectly linked to the food systems of the region to participate, regardless of their location.
