1000 Digital Villages Initiative launches Virtual community of young rural tourism entrepreneurs
The 1000 Digital Villages in Latin America and the Caribbean Initiative has launched the Virtual community of young rural tourism entrepreneurs, with the aim of providing a network for entrepreneurs linked to agritourism to connect, share experiences, and access information on issues related to digitization and rural tourism.
The Virtual community, hosted in a Facebook group, will use the various tools provided by this platform to strengthen knowledge and communication among its members through surveys, content dissemination, virtual meetings, roundtable dialogues and seminars focused on topics of interest to the participants. In addition, this space seeks to promote the digital development of tourism ventures, ranging from production to marketing support for the products and services offered.
In this initial stage, the network will be made up of young people participating in rural tourism experiences in the 14 countries that make up the 1000 Digital Villages Initiative in the region: Belize, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, Grenada, Guatemala, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Peru, the Dominican Republic, Saint Kitts and Nevis and Venezuela.
In the future, it is expected that more entrepreneurs from tourism businesses throughout Latin America and the Caribbean will join the community.
1000 Digital Villages in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2020, FAO launched the global 1000 Digital Villages Initiative to promote the digitization of services in rural areas.
In Latin America and the Caribbean, the initiative is based on existing rural tourism experiences, helping to promote connectivity and provide resources and digital solutions for thousands of people to improve their access to services, employment opportunities and income.
The 1000 Digital Villages in Latin America and the Caribbean Initiative is currently training rural tourism entrepreneurs in the production of videos to improve the promotion and marketing of their services through social networks.
