26/04/2022

26 April 2022, Santiago, Chile - Classes have begun for the second group of participants in the course on audiovisual tools for digital marketing offered through the 1000 Digital Villages in Latin America and the Caribbean initiative.

The objective of the course is to give young people the knowledge necessary to produce videos that improve the promotion and sale of services by their rural tourism enterprises.

In total, 1000 Digital Villages has supported 52 rural tourism enterprises thanks to the distance-learning course.

On this occasion, classes are being taught to 75 Spanish-speaking students from Peru, the Dominican Republic and Cuba, and 40 English-speaking students from Jamaica, Belize, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Grenada.

For six weeks, students will participate in theory and practice classes in which they will be able to make their own promotional videos, which will also be presented at a virtual rural tourism fair that will be held by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in October.

1000 Digital Villages in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2020, FAO launched the Global 1000 Digital Villages initiative to promote the digitalization of services in rural areas.

In Latin America and the Caribbean, the initiative promotes connectivity and access to resources and digital solutions for thousands of people to improve their services, employment opportunities and income, all within the framework of rural tourism.

Currently, 14 countries in the region already participate in 1000 Digital Villages: Belize, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, Granada, Guatemala, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Peru, Dominican Republic, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Venezuela.

The 1000 Digital Villages initiative is also developing a network of rural tourism experiences and an audiovisual repository with the initiatives of each country.
