14 Latin American and Caribbean countries share findings and priorities to expand the use of digital tools in agrotourism experiences
On Thursday, 4 November, the II Work Meeting was held within the framework of the 1000 Digital Villages in Latin America and the Caribbean initiative. This was a productive meeting in which technical teams from the countries participating in the initiative shared their initial results, priorities and ideas to promote the digitalization process of the agrotourism experiences selected for this project.
The virtual event was attended by 47 people from the 14 countries that are currently part of this regional initiative: Belize, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, Granada, Guatemala, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Peru, the Dominican Republic, Saint Kitts and Nevis and Venezuela.
During the meeting, the teams discussed the digitalization and tourism characteristics of the selected experiences and their main digital priorities. In addition, the meeting provided a space for group reflection during which the attendees identified the main pillars to generate a digitalization transformation strategy for other territories.
It should be noted that these results are within the framework of national consultancies focused on the elaboration of a study on the agrotourism experiences that participate in 1000 Digital Villages in Latin America and the Caribbean, which is a regional initiative that seeks to take advantage of connectivity, resources and digital solutions to improve the promotion and sale of services, while promoting rural transformation, increasing household income and expanding employment opportunities.
“We want to support rural territories and their inhabitants to get on the digital transformation train so that they are not left behind. That is FAO's challenge, to make digital transformation an opportunity, and 1000 Digital Villages is part of that effort," said Luiz Carlos Beduschi, FAO Territorial Development Officer.
